Can't find the address you are looking for when generating a building code report?

We understand how frustrating it can be not to find the address you're searching for in our app! Here’s a guide to troubleshoot and help you get the address information you need.

Step 1: Double-Check the Address Formatting

Sometimes, minor formatting issues can affect the search results. Try the following tips to improve your search results:

  • Use standard abbreviations: For example, instead of "Street," try "St." Similarly, use "Ave" for "Avenue" and "Blvd" for "Boulevard."
  • Avoid extra punctuation: Skip periods or commas unless they're part of the official address.
  • Try partial matches: Sometimes, typing just the street name and city or the zip code (without the house number) can yield better results.
  • Double-check spelling: Minor typos can prevent the address from appearing in a search.

Step 2: Verify the Address Source

Make sure the address you’re using is accurate by cross-referencing it with a known reliable source:

  • Use a map service: Check the address in Google Maps, Bing Maps, or Apple Maps to ensure the location is listed and active.
  • Cross-reference official records: If the address is part of a commercial property or a government building, verify with official records.
    • The best place to start is by checking county address records. If you cannot find your address under county records, you may want to check if the address you have is correct.

Step 3: Try Alternate Address Versions

If the exact address is not showing, there may be alternate or historical names or listings for the location:

  • Check alternate names: For instance, some buildings may be listed under their official name instead of the street address.
    • If you search for the address within Google Maps and it comes up under a different version of the address, try the one suggested by Google Maps.
  • Try nearby landmarks: If the address is near a well-known landmark, try searching for that instead to see if it helps locate the area.

Step 4: Clear Cache and Refresh

Sometimes, cached data can interfere with your search. Clearing your browser or app cache might help:

  • Clear your cache: Go to your browser or app settings to clear cache and cookies.
  • Refresh the page: Close and reopen the app or refresh the browser window.

FAQs

Q: Why can't I find certain newly developed addresses?

A: Newly developed addresses may take some time to appear in our system as they’re added to regional databases. Properties built within the last six months to a year may not be in our system just yet. In the meantime, please contact support for assistance.

Q: What should I do if I see multiple listings for the same address?

A: This could be due to duplicate entries in the database. Please report any duplicate addresses to our support team, and we’ll help resolve it.

  • This should look different from seeing an existing project you have already created. You will always have the option to click on your existing project to avoid creating duplicate projects on your account.
