Steps for Using the Shingle Waste Calculator
1. Open the Waste Calculator
On your building code report, select the Waste Calculator tool.
Tip: if you access the Waste Calculator tool on your building code report, you will be able to save these calculations to your project.
You can also access the Waste Calculator by going to the Tools section
2. Enter Input Values
Provide all the required inputs for accurate calculations.
Here’s a breakdown of the fields:

Use the total roof area (removal squares or SQs) provided in your roof measurement report. If the area is in square feet (SF), divide it by 100 to convert it into squares. -
Ridge Length (optional)

Eave Length (required)
Use the total eave length measured or provided in a roof measurement report. -

3. Calculate Shingle Waste
Click Calculate to generate your shingle waste estimate.
Tips:
- Once you have calculated the shingle waste estimate, click View Note for a detailed breakdown of your roofing waste estimate.
- Click Copy Note to copy the calculations of the Shingle Waste Calculator.
4. Select a Rounding Method
Choose the rounding method that aligns best with your waste estimation.
- Rounding to the nearest bundle assumes 3 bundles per SQ for Field, Ridge, and Starter shingles.
5. Create Shingle Waste Report
Please Note: You can only create a PDF report of your calculations if you access the Waste Calculator on your building code report.
