How to Use the Ventilation Calculator

A step-by-step guide to using the Ventilation Calculator.

The Ventilation Calculator is a tool designed to help you determine the necessary roof ventilation for your project based on the roof size, predominant pitch, and existing attic vents. Follow these step-by-step instructions to use the calculator. 

Step 1: Access the Calculator

To begin, navigate to the Roof Ventilation Calculator on your project.

Step 2: Input the Roof Size

  1. Locate the Roof Size field.

  2. Enter the total roof area in square feet (SQ). This value should represent the entire roof’s surface area.

Step 3: Input the Predominant Pitch

  1. Locate the Predominant Pitch field.

  2. Enter the roof’s pitch as a ratio (e.g., 6/12).

Step 4: Select Existing Roof/Attic Vents (Optional)

  1. Locate the Existing Roof / Attic Vents dropdown menu.

  2. Click on the dropdown to see the available vent types.

    • Options include:

      • Turtle

      • Ridge

      • Power

      • Turbine

      • Gable

  3. Select the type of vents that are already installed on the roof (if applicable). This step is optional but helps provide more accurate calculations.

Step 5: Calculate the Results

Click "calculate" to determine the total number of vents required for proper ventilation. Adjust the inputs if necessary to refine the results.

Step 6: Create the Report

Click Create Report to get a full PDF of the roof estimate. 

Tip: from here, you can  expand the results and get a more detailed explanation by clicking on "View Note" next to the calculation. You can also copy and paste those notes directly into your estimate by clicking on "Copy Note" next to the results.
